UK NIME Community

Hey NIMErs :sparkles:

I met a lot of you who are also UK-based this past week. There are so many of us and I’d love to get some kind of local dialogue for support or potential local collaborations going in the time between the NIME conferences - we shouldn’t need to travel to other places to meet our neighbours

If you are interested in maybe having a Slack group or something similar - a low email volume community where we can get in touch would be great - comment here and I’ll put something together!

Hi Cortney,

I could not make NIME due to some of my children starting college that week and I needed to support them. However, some of my students attended and had a great experience.

I would like to be signed up to any UK community channels and so please do keep me in the loop. Any chance it could be Discord over Slack?

All sounds good to me, sign me up please

I’d be happy to join! One disadvantage of slack is that it doesn’t keep chat history beyond a couple of months. Discord might be a better option although will likely go in a similar direction at some point

Good point about Discord! I tend to lean Slack because I think it was more widely used academically it in the past, but let’s try that! We can also voice chat more easily if we ever want to have some virtual meetups.

I’ve made a Discord server with some basic channels to get us started here, please join!:

Alternative titles for our community welcome - I thought BritNIME might be catchy, but we’ve got so many colleagues in Belfast! :stuck_out_tongue: Northern Ireland Musical Expression (NIME).

The above link will have expired by now - if you want to join us, please reply here or email me c.n.reed[at]lboro.ac.uk
