Unofficial/intermediate paper deadlines / feedback period

Are there any unofficial/intermediate paper deadlines besides the two listed on the 2025 call for submissions page (1/29 title, abstract and author lists due, 2/5 final submissions due)? I’ve seen a paper feedback period referenced in some older NIME papers - does this begin before or after February 5, the CMT paper submission deadline given on the NIME homepage? Apologies if I should know this already.

The two deadlines are the final deadlines for articles to be considered for review. The authors can submit their final submissions on Jan 29 if their manuscripts are ready or create the initial submissions with title, abstract, and author details by this date and be able to edit and finalize their submission with the completed papers by Feb 5.

After Feb 5, it is not possible to create any submissions on the paper track. After this deadline, the review process starts and the authors will be notified of the reviewers’ accept or reject decisions on April 2.

I hope this clarifies a little bit more. Please, let us know if you have more questions.

This is helpful, but maybe I should rephrase - are there any advantages at all to submitting final manuscripts earlier?

Hi @1oh, no there aren’t really any advantages to submitting final manuscripts earlier than the deadline. You just have to make sure that you create your submission with metadata by the first deadline and upload the completed paper by the second.

Hello community:), is it required to be part of an institution to submit a paper for the conference? I led a research on a topic under a supervision at the university, but i am no longer a student, neither an employee researcher so far. So I wonder if it is possible to make a submission on my own. thanks in advance!

Hi @m_nka - nope you don’t have to be part of any institution to submit to NIME.

Sometimes folks will just have no affiliation, list an artistic organisation or group as an affiliation (e.g., here), list the affiliation as the institution where they conducted the research (even if they are not a current student or employee) or list something like “Independent Artist” or “Independent Researcher”.

I think the submission website CMT requires you to list an “Organisation” when submitting, you can put whatever you like there but I don’t think it can be blank. There is no requirement to list an affiliation or institution on an accepted NIME paper PDF file, you can minimally just have your name and contact email.

Thanks so much Martin! The CMT website was exactly the reason why i started to wonder about this.
