Hi @Annie,
We do not have a rule against parallel submissions for music or workshops tracks. Parallel submissions are prohibited in the paper track.

Hi there,
I have a question about the word count categories for submissions. How strict are the requirements? For example, if my paper is currently around 2600 words, should I condense it to fit within the 2000-word category, or is it acceptable to submit it as is? Alternatively, would it be better to expand it to meet the 4000-word category?
Hi @yichenwang , could you be so kind as to expand of āfull audioā. In my proposition, I am thinking of writing something like āI will adapt to the venue, flexible from stereo to multichannelā would something like that be ok, or will it come across as though I have no clue what I am doing? I prefer to be precise if possible, but also as a festival organiser fully understand the need for flexibility, so itās no problem for me to adapt. What is more preferable in your opinion?
If I may add a subquestion to @VitorPinheiro 's question, what if one is slightly under 2000-word category? Could you be so kind as to provide a range, rather than a fix number? I think that would be helpful for all. Many thanks!
Can I include more than 1 media link? My submission is a piece with improvised elements, and there are elements from 3 performances I want to use in my improvised piece? I donāt have a recording of the piece I am submitting. Is it better to submit a piece that has already been recorded and performed? The one I would like to submit is written but has no recordings, but builds on the other 3 recorded performances.
@VitorPinheiro - thatās 100% your choice based on your knowledge of your work:
Authors are encouraged to submit a paper with an appropriate length for the intended contribution. All length classes will undergo the same review process, with guidelines for reviewers expectations. We encourage authors to make use of the shorter classes. All length classes are eligible for oral or poster presentation if accepted. Papers are expected to have a contribution commensurate with their length. For the short paper category, we welcome submission that proposes an original and innovation technology, technical approaches, or prototype (with or without an accompanying evaluation) that provokes novel conversations and contribute meaningfully to the NIME field.
@davorius, no sorry we cannot provide a range. We provide upper limits for different length classes. If itās below 2000 words, it counts in the 2000 word category.
@j_h for music submissions, I suppose we canāt stop you providing many media links. You may only upload one media file in CMT. I would consider whether you are overwhelming reviewers with many media files. As suggested somewhere above, combining multiple videos into one file (of a reasonable length) is an option.
The co-authors section on the abstract submission page lists the country/region of each author. For my paperās secondary author, I added the country manually - my own country/region is listed on my profile, but it is blank on the form, where it cannot be edited or deleted. Is this OK?
Also, is it true that paper word length / the 6 page limit does not include the references section?
@charlesmartin thanks for clarifying!
Hello! apologies if this has been asked and answered beforeā¦
Iām just wondering whether it will be possible to change the submission length after the title/abstract deadline? Currently I have indicated that I will submit a 4000 word paper but to be honest it may end up being a bit longer than that as I finish it up over the next few days. Will it be possible to change it to a 6000 word submission?
@yann yep you can change the length class for the final submission, thatās completely fine.
Am I able to edit all the sections in the paper submissions form (eg. title, abstract, authors) after the first deadline and before the final submission?
Hi @charlesmartin - you actually indirectly answered my question. I was just afraid that there are sharp cut-offs, but I assume if the paper is within 100-200 words from the margin then it will fall into that category, am I right? Thanks!
Hi @crispin, yes, you should be able to change title, abstract, etc. until the final deadline if you created a submission by the first deadline.
Hi everyone,
is it correct that the lines are numbered visibly
when exporting the PDF paper from Overleaf? If not, how can I change it?
Thanks so much!
Hi @m_nka, Yes, it is correct - number lines are part of the paper submission template.
Is a āteaser imageā, as found in the example paper template, mandatory? If so, should its dimensions be the same as the one in the document?
Hi @1oh the teaser image is not mandatory.
Is there a standard format for citing NIME papers? In the Bibtex citations for papers from past NIMEs, some are labeled as āarticleā, others as āinproceedingsā, and some lack publisher/address details, resulting in warnings in Overleaf when copying them the paper template. Does a lack of Overleaf bibliography warnings indicate citation accuracy? Can minor citation issues be corrected during the paper review period?
NIME has not previously had a standard reference format. This year, the template uses ACM Reference Format (as described here) which is a modern standard common to all ACM conferences and journals and familiar to many in our field.
The bibliography style file (ACM-Reference-Format.bst) āhelpfullyā raises many warnings for minor issues in referencing such as lack of publisher/address. I think itās reasonable for authors to try to be as accurate as possible with bibliographic details.
Yes, minor bibliographic issues can be addressed after review and we will check that the camera ready papers are appropriate for publication; however, authors are responsible to make sure their referencing is up to publication standard at the submission stage.
